Eileen Newsome

I am pleased to tell you a little about myself and my chosen work as a massage therapist and personal trainer.

I graduated from the Swedish Institute's College of Health and Sciences in NYC where I earned my degree in Occupational Studies. The Swedish Institute has been educating health care professionals since 1916 and is considered by many to be one of the finest massage therapy and acupuncture schools in the country. At the school, I was privileged to learn both eastern and western styles of massage and how to incorporate each in my practice to provide the best possible experience for my client. As a Massage Therapist, I am certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and I am licensed by the states of Florida and New York.

Returning to the college, I had the opportunity to enhance my skills by successfully completing the Basic Exercise Science and Advanced Personal Training program after which, I became certified as a personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise.

Giving back to the community is an important aspect of the work that I enjoy. My desire to serve and enjoy my work has taken me down roads that I never expected to travel on. One such road motivated me to develop an instructional doggie massage video that I call Good Dog Massage. My inspiration came from my good friend Cooper who was my patient subject and wonderful teacher. Cooper, now 11 years old, is my constant companion and a delight to be around. As I write, this, he lies on his back on my (his) favorite chair, with his head hanging slightly off the cushion, and feet pointing towards the sky. What a good life for a good dog.

I find it rewarding to work to improve the community where I serve, and as a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, I devote time where the organization can best use my help to achieve its goals.

Over time, my practice has evolved to where I spend a good amount of time working with the people who can benefit from my expertise in medical massage. Whether it's to help prepare for a sports event or to reduce the stress of a chronic illness, my approach to massage is focused on the specific therapeutic needs of each client. My treatment protocols are carefully developed to reflect the integration of Eastern and Western massage, which include Swedish, Shiatsu and Reiki.

As a teacher, I enjoy educating health care professionals to prepare them so that they may teach parents and caregivers how to massage their newborn baby. In addition I offer Reiki training to those who desire to learn this ancient hands on healing technique.

My expertise as a Personal Trainer allows me to work with individuals to help them develop the level of fitness they need to maintain a healthy and productive life.

One of the nicest things about creating my own workspace is not having the artificial separation of work and life. My life is my work and my work is my life. Having spent many years in a corporate environment where I often felt the need to put up barriers, I truly appreciate being able to integrate my life in a more wholesome and holistic way. I enjoy each day in conscious creativity.
