Bio and inspiration for this work:

  • My journey into massage and motherhood began the same year.
  • I graduated from the Boulder School of Massage Therapy in Dec 1979.
  • Married 10 days later and pregnant a few months later I began my passion for massage throughout the entire pregnant experience.
  • I received massages throughout my pregnancy, in labor, postpartum and my son James (May 4, 1981) received newborn and infant massage. My knowledge of pregnancy massage was through direct experience. This was in the early years of the profession and very little was taught or written about this population and massage.
  • Throughout the years, I increased my knowledge on this subject through my work with a local midwife (Kate Winningham). We traded massage and midwifery for my second child, Jessica (Nov 13, 1984). I attended births, and performed many prenatal massages with her clients. I developed through experience, and reading research into pregnancy massage in many cultures. The books Childbirth Wisdom by Judith Goldsmith and Birth in Four Cultures by Bridgette Jordan, inspired my continued work with this population. By the time my third child was born, underwater, Danielle (June 1, 1987), I was knowledgeable and proficient in all areas of pregnancy massage, from support for conception, through all three trimesters, labor, and postpartum.
  • All there of my children received massage throughout their infancy and continue to this day to love to receive massages.
  • Nurturing the Mother was inspired from this life experience and began in 1990 as a workshop and certification. Since then through both clients and students the knowledge has grown and is passionately shared in the workshops and now DVD’s.
