Certification Session
Thank you for your interest in the Baby's First Massage Program. You can become a Certified Newborn Massage Instructor by attending the on site workshop (then completing some course material at home) or completing the home study. If you prefer the flexibility of the home study, but want hands on experience, you would enjoy the option of participating in a Certification Session with a Certification Coach.
A Certification Coach offers you personal instruction with the opportunity for hands on learning at a location near you. The Coach sets up regular Certification Sessions. You have a choice about which date you can attend. You would purchase the Independent Study from the Coach (I would still be shipping it to you directly or to the Coach and they would arrange for you to get the kit), review all the materials, complete the post test included in the course materials, prepare your teaching outline, and attend the Session for the hands on learning.
At the Session, you would be able to do your practice teaching from your outline. This would complete all the steps for certification. The Coach reviews all the massage strokes with you, shows you how much pressure to use, answers any questions about the post test, and offers a real live demonstration class with a newborn baby and Mom. If you are interested in this option, scroll down through the list of Coaches and find one nearest you and contact them directly. If you have any difficulty getting a response from a Coach, please let me know by email.
Each Coach determines the fee for their Session, based on their costs for meeting rooms, marketing, etc. The fee includes the cost of the Independent Study. The fees are listed on the workshop schedule page, and are subject to change, so please contact the Coach or Trainer for confirmation.
Baby's First Massage program reaches out to many professions. The continuing education acknowledgment that we seek for you is one of the areas we continually seek and update. Because of the many organizations that offer "Approved Provider" status, it can become confusing. Please go to the "Continuing Education" page to get the clarification you might need.
The NCBTMB, the Texas Board of Massage, and the Florida Board of Massage Therapy (5.5 contact hours), have given approval for 5.4 contact hours, and the Ohio Physical Therapy Association has approved the Certification Session for 4.5 contact hours (through 01/30/2009) of continuing education for completion of a Certification Session. These contact hours are in addition to the approved 22 contact hours for the Home Study portion for a total of 27 contact hours. (TX does not give CE for home study portion however, if a massage therapist is nationally certified, the 22 contact hours do apply for re-licensure).
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
Approval for 5.16 contact hours of continuing education, approval valid through April 13, 2012 for the Certification Session portion. Approval valid for the Independent Study through May 11, 2012 for 21.0 contact hours. For nurses that complete this entire course of the Independent Study and Certification Session, the total contact hours are 26.16.
